Painting I
Instructor: Matt Borruso
Covers all of the important foundational concerns required for the practice of painting with water miscible oil paints. Formal issues addressed include all tools and techniques, mediums, supports, and grounds. Design and application concerns such as composition, color theory, underpainting, layering techniques, and wet on wet approaches are also discussed. Finally, a focus on source material and the conceptual aspects of painting through simple strategic models for the development of personal work. The course utilizes demonstrations, slide presentations of historic and contemporary painters, and both short- and long-term projects to further the knowledge and capabilities of the student.
